British Riding Clubs Novice Dressage Qualifier: Solihull Riding Club. 19th October 2024
Another British Riding Clubs qualifier for us! This time it was the Novice Dressage Qualifier! We fielded one team, which was made up of Wendy and Tamara Muck (Tara), Kerrie and Beauty School Dropout (Frenchie), Julie and Stonewalls Bessie (Betty) and Mandy and Apurna’s Buck (Buck). Unfortunately, all the times were spread throughout the day, mainly because there were a massive amount of entries (over 25 teams!) so it’s no mean feat to get that sorted! This does also mean that we have no pictures to share this time ☹. So, a very quick update from us this time! It’s no secret that dressage isn’t our team’s favourite discipline, but the benefit of our club is that we will always give it a go, and we did just that. This team event was made up of 4 riders, with each one performing a different test. Wendy and Tara completed the Intro 3 test and actually came out of the arena relatively happy with what they produced! Kerrie got her first taste of ‘dressage’ on Frenchie, completing Prelim 1, and after a slightly scary warmup, produced a test that exceeded expectations for 63%. Julie and Betty were next up and they went in to do Prelim 2, also getting +60%. Finally, it was our newest member of the club, Mandy, who brought the exuberant Buck and they completed the Novice test. It’s great to have new members and see them out with their horses! Overall, there were no prizes to be had, but the sun was shining and we all got back in one piece!
British Riding Clubs Arena Eventing Qualifier: Dallas Burston Polo Club. 12th October 2024
Team: 6th
This month we ventured out to Dallas Burston Polo Club for the British Riding Clubs Area 5 Arena Eventing Qualifier. The 70cm team consisted of Wendy and Tamara Muck (Tara), Tracey and Dora, Julie and Stonewalls Bessie (Betty) and Kerrie and Beauty School Dropout (Frenchie). Wendy was the first to go for the team, Tara jumped a lovely clear round the show jumping and then moved onto the cross country, where Tara took a brief dislike to the first, jumping it second time of asking. Then progressing well until Wendy parted ways, but both were ok and got home safely. Next up was Kerrie and Frenchie, Kerrie has recently taken the reins from Katie whilst she is off duty, and after a lovely clear round, they just had an unfortunate stop at the unfortunately, fence that got Wendy unstuck. But they successfully represented and jumped the joker fence clear. Julie and Betty were next to go, and they were flying, having a great forward round, unfortunately, just having the last fence/joker down and picking up a couple of speedy time faults. Last to go were Tracey and Dora, who produced an effortless clear round on both the show jumping and cross country, but again picked up some speedy time faults in the second phase. Katie was there on the day to cheer the team on and keep a beady eye on the scores and was pleased to see that the team managed to hold onto 6th place!

British Riding Clubs Show Jumping Qualifier: Solihull. 28th July 2024
Team: 7th
Individual: 3rd
The club ventured to Solihull again, this time for the Show Jumping qualifier. Yet again, it was a very warm day, but the team were blessed with early times, meaning they missed the hottest part of the day. The 70cm team consisted of Wendy and Tamara Muck (Tara), Tracey and Dora and Julie and Stonewalls Bessie (Betty). Wendy kicked things off for the team, having a great round just getting a very unfortunate 4 faults, having the penultimate fence down. Tracey and Dora continued to be consistent and produced a lovely clear round. Julie and Betty also had a great round, just a slight sat nav issue which meant they took a wobbly line to a fence and had this one down. Onto the second round which included the jump off at the latter part of the course. Tara was a little distracted and ended up with 8 faults in round two, and 4 faults in the jump off. Tracey and Dora again did a great job, going double clear and posting a speedy jump off time. Julie and Betty had a fantastic round and in Betty’s eyes it was clear for the second round and jump off, but unfortunately another sat nav malfunction meant that they jumped the wrong last fence and ended up with an E for the jump off round! Overall, we did come away with a team score and were just outside of the placings, coming 7th. But Tracey and Dora with their triple clear managed to come away 3rd individually!

British Riding Clubs Horse Trials Qualifier: Solihull Riding Club. 23rd June 2024
Team: 4th
Individual: 4th
The sun was certainly shining for a day at Solihull where we had one team competiting in the 70cm BRC Horse Trials qualifier. The team included Tracey and Dora, Julie and Stonewalls Bessie (Betty) and Wendy and Tamara Muck (Tara). The sudden burst of heat had woken the horse flies which were bothering horses, riders and grooms! This did make for a day of constant fly spray application! Wendy and Tara were first up to do dressage and although the flies were really unsettling Tara, they produced a much calmer test than previously, but still pleased it was over! Tracey and Dora put forward a great score with Dora showing her accuracy and consistency to leave them a strong position moving into the next phases. Julie and Betty also produced a nice test, but like Wendy and Tara, wanted to get going and enjoy the next phases. Onto the Show Jumping, and after suriving a slightly busy warm up, it was time to get going. First up, Wendy and Tara, who unfortunately had 3 poles but plenty of positives to take away. Tracey and Dora were next, just having an unfortunate 4 faults to add after having one pole down at the penultimate fence. And lastly was Julie and Betty, who produced a fantastic clear round, making it looking easy. Finally, they were all off to the cross country. The first few fences had been causing quite a few issues so lots of positive riding was needed. We're pleased to report that they all jumped clear in what was the hottest temperatures of the day. With Wendy/Tara and Julie/Betty coming home with a handful of time faults, but Tracey and Dora stormed home to finish within the optimum time. Overall it was a great day and the team were happy to see that they placed 4th which is a great achievement when there was just the three of them. And Tracey also managed to get a 4th place individually which was fantastic!

British Riding Clubs Two Day Event: Princethorpe College. 25th/26th May 2024
Team: 3rd
Individual: 9th
We fielded one team this year, in the 70cm, which was made up by Wendy and Tamara Muck (Tara), Tracey and Dora and Julie and Stonewalls Bessie (Betty). This event consisted of Dressage and Show Jumping on day one, and Roads & Tracks and Cross Country on day two. On Saturday, everyone put in their best efforts in the Dressage and although maybe not the favourite discipline of the weekend, they all came out happy with what they had done and were all looking forward to the jumping that was ahead! After a break, it was time for Show Jumping and although the weather was lovely and sunny, the ground was still a little deep in places. First up was Wendy and Tara who had a great, forward round, but unfortunately did tap a few poles to come out with 16 penalties. Next was Tracey and Dora who in usual fashion, flew round in a lovely rhythm to just come away with 4 penalties after tapping the penultimate fence. Finally it was Julie and Betty's turn and they produced a fantastic clear round! By the end of Day one, the team were lying in 6th place. Moving onto Sunday where the main concern was how the ground was holding up after a night of rain (back to typical England!). The team all had late times and, thankfully, the expected thunderstorms did hold off so we had another nice, sunny afternoon. All of our team headed out one after the other onto the Roads & Tracks which was a timed 2.4km ride around the grounds before entering a 10-minute holding box where each horse was examined by the vets before being given the all clear to move onto Cross Country. Happy to report that all of our horses did and the final phase was in sight. All of the team did amazingly to come home with three clear rounds and each just picking up a handful of time faults. After washing off and putting them away we all had a celebratory (small!) glass of fizz as we found out the team had risen three places to come home in an amazing 3rd place! And we were then even more excited to find out that Tracey and Dora also brought home an individual 9th place too!
